Itagaki: Devil's Third is getting criticized because it's innovative

I am really baffled at how vehemently people defend this game.

What am I missing here? What little I played had a choppy framerate, unresponsive controls that made aiming a chore, Uwe Boll calibre characters/VA/storytelling, graphics that wouldn't look out of place in a PS3/360 launch title, shallow combat mechanics...

I don't get it, I really don't. What do you guys see in it?
