Overall the movie is pretty good. Character portraits are fantastic and nothing in the movie betrays the Star Wars
mythology.

But your criticism about Rey's backstory is correct imo. I also found the fact that both Rey and Finn could pretty much match Kylo Ren in lightsaber combat a little weird to say the least, since they never had any training.

I give EPVII an 8.5/10 but it could be a 10/10 if it weren't by the inconsistencies I mentioned above.

Well the thing is, 1. Kylo was wounded when he was shot by Chewie & is currently going through a lot since he had just killed his dad and is still really confused over what to do and 2. He's out of practice. This is probably his first lightsaber fight since training with Luke, which was seemingly YEARS ago. So we have an enraged/confused dude who (probably) for the first time has been challenged by anyone and then realizes, "Oh shit, I haven't actually had a lightsaber fight in years" -which is apparent with the way he fights. Finn doesn't really put up a fight, he's just using the lightsaber like a sword just like anyone would. You don't need to be a Jedi to know how to hold or use a lightsaber (General Grievous was able to use them well without being force sensitive), you do, however, need to be intune with the force to stand a chance against someone with the force + a bit of training -which Finn didn't. He exchanged a few blows and then got his ass handed to him. Rey was angry that she lost "the father she never had" and used that along with the force to fight off Kylo. Even then she was obviously untrained with the way she fought. Plus she had been using a stick to fight with her whole life anyway Plus I'm almost 99% sure Rey is a Skywalker which would explain why she's so good with the force XD
