Upgrading a console is to improve is hardware capabilities like the expansion memory of the N64 did, not relying on the Cloud.

Also, MSoft already talked about Cloud Computing with the XboxOne and almost everybody was against it because that implies an always connected console, with no offline play. The NX would turn into something like OnLive.

It would be like a physical cloud computing device in your home. Its a physical device you plug into your NX to upgrade what it can do in the future. Juding from the size of the device from the patent it wouldn't be a simple ram cart. It looks like the size of a old school external hard drive. Plus it can boost the graphics capabilities of the handheld too. This isn't the Xbox online thing but it can do that too. At least this is what I think it does from reading the patent.
