But now, as for this topic, as a first RPG this is probably a rough start. But most of the systems can be ignored mostly and you CAN get by without using them all.
But I would recommend a less complex starting point. Chrono Trigger is a good one. Not too long, good story, good pacing, turn based combat that's fun, it's got its depths but never overwhelms and can get you adjusted to some of the principles that many RPGs are founded on.
