I'm not getting Xenoblade Chronicles X because it's too confusing.

Yeah, I would recommend the first Xenoblade, and if you got a new nintend 3ds, then get it for that. Amazing game and will give you the basics to see how you feel about Xeno X. You level your arts and gems you equip, as well as the fighting system is the same.
