I think its gotten to the point Sony just doesn't want to spend money on Vita. I'm guessing they make a nice profit at $199, but they don't want to put that back into Vita. They are cutting their losses. Support its basically limited to 3rd parties.
Also, lower the price won't solve Vita's biggest issue in the US. It doesn't have games US gamers want. A bunch of niche stuff isn't going to move hardware.
The PS3 and 360 are seeing their support cut back in spite of selling significantly more software than Vita. So even if Vita were to get a sales spike, there is litle hope of support coming back.
