I don't think the two year difference makes that much an impact at all. Especially with me. I was a regular, stupid kid. (Obviously I'm eggadurating. I wasn't a slow kid, but I definitely wasn't the top of my class back then) I wasn't sitting there at age seven, deeply contemplating the deeper meanings behind the moon falling. I just knew that the moon was scary and everyone was scared in different ways. That's not a difficult thing to understand, and I'm 100% sure it would have been no different if I played it when I played OoT instead.

I would disagree. I think the growth both emotionally and mentally of a child from age 5 to 10 is incredible. Most kids first real seperation with their mother and father happen at this time when they start school. Then learning to form social bonds, and finding recreational activities away from home and without supervision of your parents. To greatly expanding our vocabulary and problem solving skills.

You talking to the person who finished Zelda OoT alone when he was only 5, with all dungeons and puzzles and completely understand game. Same goes for more complex, deeper and harder Zelda MM. I never know any 5 years old that is so advanced.
