It's pretty insecure to believe that every decision against buying an XB1 or any criticism of the XB1 is solely a result of 2013 E3 + Reveal, and everything since then has been perfect. If it was reality would fit that.
If anything, if there was more of a negative slant of XB1 vs PS4 in the media, which I doubt, it would be because of the negative PR MS has generated for itself, not to discount things like baseless rumors.
And at the top most level, "slack" isn't a consideration, lost sales are lost sales, you don't get that back because you made some "superficial changes" that mainstream doesn't care about.
