A lot of this is spurred by something that happened to me last weekend. I watched both Inside Out and Big Hero 6 for the first time. Back to back. I had literally never seen anything about either of them before hand. Not a trailer, not a teaser, not a plot summary, not a scenario, not even a picture. I just knew that they were disney/pixar and that people liked them. They were absolutely pheoniminal and became two of my favorite movies of all time instantly, and that whole experience was so overwhelming. It reminded me how great it can feel to go into something totally blind and how much I complain about companies spoiling their content in trailers when I should just be doing myself a favor and avoiding it myself. I can't imagine how much less it would have impacted me if I went in knowing anything. I also recently bought my friend who doesn't follow gaming and has never played an indie game a copy of Undertale. She fell in love with it, and seeing her unspoiled reactions to it reminded me how great gaming can be. The child like wonder it can bring when you don't know anything about what you're getting into and what you get is monumental. And then the teaser happened this Thursday. And at first I was frustrated by how brief it was, until I thought about it and realized that for the first time, a developer isn't spoiling their game with teasers and trailers showing too much. No one knows literally anything about this game outside of it being beautiful, large, and open. The universe gave me what I wanted, and I've been complaining about it. Well now I want to take the hint and do something about it. You're right. It's way too early, and that's what excites me. I even wish I could go back to when I didn't know about the long sword, the different shield and shirt, and the Sheikah symbol appearence. That's a little bit of wonder I won't have when I play this game. |
After reading this, I'm considering doing this for Zelda. Let's hope I can.
I'll probably start not looking at stuff after the next time we hear about it though.
