A Pokémon whispered in my ear: "Rol, remember the thread you made after this year's E3? You were right."

The thread in question is this one. I presented the theory that the presence or lack thereof of games from four certain Nintendo IPs (3D Zelda, 3D Mario, Super Smash Bros. and Metroid) determine whether a Nintendo show has been good or not.

This Thursday we got a Direct that was 45 minutes long. It started with the confirmation of Twilight Princess HD and about ten seconds of Zelda U footage. What happened in the next 25 minutes, most people don't know anymore. In case you wonder, there were updates to already released games, lots of amiibos and a couple of free-to-start games/applications. Some people will remember that the 3DS will get a bunch of RPGs, but the guys who only own a Wii U will probably draw a blank here. The Direct ended with the latest addition to the Super Smash Bros. 4 roster: Cloud Strife.

In summary, there wasn't really much in this Direct despite five months of radio silence from Nintendo. You could call it meh or okay. But the actual reaction was more positive than that. In this thread people got to rate the Direct and only a few gave it a lower score than 7/10. Some recollections even make it clear that there wasn't really much good stuff in this Direct, but the event was scored high regardless. Because, you know, Zelda and Super Smash Bros. got a few minutes of attention from Nintendo. The visuals of Twilight Princess HD weren't a dealbreaker either. In terms of Wii U content, there was less than at E3, but this Direct had Zelda.

So here we are. Is there truth to my theory? Or is it all just coincidence?

I'm drawing no blank; I got a release window and an amazing looking new trailer for FAST Racing Neo, and a date and some better-looking footage for Starfox Zero. This plus re-affirmation of Zelda coming to Wii U made it a decent Direct for me. I don't give a damn about Cloud in Smash, or Smash as a whole. ;)
