 Overall, I loved it. :)

Visiting the same environments repeatedly did wear on my patience at times, (I expected some backtracking, it's a series staple, just not this much) but for me this was more than compensated for by its chilling fear factor, moody art direction and sound design, masterful use of the Gamepad, and moving story.

I got the bad ending for Yuri, [which left me heartbroken! :'( ] the happy ending fro Miu, [yay!] and the first ending in the Ren video. Having watched them all, I think my favourite is Yuri's good ending, where both her and Ose find in each other an outlet for their bottled up anguish, which allows them to move forwards and be at peace.

That's great to hear! I definitely agree with everything you said. The story was definitely much more dark than I was expecting, and the sound design sometimes made me stop and listen for a second because I had to make sure the sounds were actually coming from the game. xD

That's my favorite ending too. It's really satisfying to see Yuri at peace after everything she went through. Definitely my favorite character in the game, she was badass. Loved the ending music too.

Also, do you know what decides which ending you get? And now that you've completed the game, how would you rank it compared to the others?

Man, I love this song. :D Amano Tsukiko is one of my favourite singers at the moment. Kurenai, Chou, and Noise by her are also brilliant.

Another thing I really liked about Yuri's good ending is the way that the recurring thematic motif of water is linked to her being unable to cry despite all she's been through. Her tears ultimately cleanse her of her suffering, much like how the "pure water" of Mount Hikami was used in ritualistic cleansing.

The endings are decided thus:

Yuri: Whether you defeat the final boss in her "drowning" (bad ending) or "praying" (good ending) form.

Miu: Whether or not you take a photo of your mother before following her out into the Lake of the Departed. Taking a photo = good ending, not taking one= bad ending.

Ren: First, whether you choose the hair lock or the photo as your token. If you choose the child, it's whether you fight her or let her grab you, and if you choose Ose, it's whether you touch her or take a photo of her.

As for how I rank the ones I've played, I think I still love Fatal Frame 4 the best, with 2 (the Wii version) and 5 vying for second place. They're all among my favourite games of recent years though. :)
