You described the flaws of Galaxy 1 that was mostly fixed in Galaxy 2. What then, do you think is the better game? I think Galaxy 2 is better by a small margin imo.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 also has unskippable intros for each star and suffers from the American fast food chain syndrome. One comet coin per galaxy isn't exactly a lot to collect aside from the obvious power stars. SMG2 really isn't much different from SMG as most things carried over.

-I mean, really with unskippable intros? It takes like 5 seconds, and at least you get a feeling of what the objective is. At least there's significantly less intro story, and hub worlds are significantly smaller. It's really not that big of a deal. Same point can be said for 3D World with its story intro.

-I have to disagree what you mean by American fast food chain syndrome. I can see the point of what you mean for SMG, but SMG2 ups the difficulty and length for each world by a significant margin for the most part, and you have to be quick and nimble in various situations in combination with power-ups, which I didn't have any issues executing. In my opinion, it's truly the magnum opus of 3D platforming. And I guess by that logic, I can accuse 3D world for having American fast food chain syndrome too with having too little health bars and meh platforming in some sections.

-Does Green Stars count for your exploration needs? And collecting arbitrary coins in 3D worlds ain't much better.

-SMG2 is different from SMG that it's clearly the far superior game in terms of challenge, length, and amount of fun.

I'm not saying that SMG2 is absolutely perfect in every scale imagineable, but so is 3D world. I can think more positives for SMG2 than 3D World, which is why I think it's the better game. Metacritic on average has a higher score and a near perfect score for Galaxy 2 in comparison to 3D World, just as a mere reference point.
