EDIT: FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM! So apparently Yoshi's Island GBA has a somewhat "hidden" menu (that I never noticed anyway) that has an option for "Auto Sleep Mode" -which puts your system in sleep mode if you leave it idle for too long. I've never encountered this in a GBA game before so I had no clue this was even a thing until just now o~o XD So I ordered Super Mario Advance 3, Yoshi's Island on the GBA off of Amazon a few weeks ago. It finally came in and when I started it it seemed fine. The game even had 3 save slots. 2 completed files and 1 file on World 2. So I deleted them and started the game.
As I had previously mentioned the game runs perfectly well, and nothing else really feels wrong except that while playing it I got a phone call and so I left the room, when I got back the GBA screen was black. So I thought to myself, "That's weird, maybe it's in sleep mode?" Well nothing I pressed turned it back on so I reset my GBA and turned it on. The game ran fine. However I had to do something again a little while later and AGAIN when I came back the game screen was black. Then I realized something might be wrong.
First thinking it was perhaps my GBA SP I tried the game on my DS, after a little while the game went black same as the GBA. And like the GBA the system is still on when this happens, it's just the game itself that seemingly "turns off". So I did a test just a few minutes ago and after around a minute it seems like it tends to turn off.
So is there something I'm missing? Is this a feature of Sleep Mode in Yoshi's Island or is the game cart defective? Is it something else? I'd like to know XD
NOTE: The game ONLY turns off while idle. The game has never turned off like this while I've played through a level.
