That niche was particularly inviting of academic, analytical discussions about video games. You have to be a very specific type of game fan to be drawn to a website because of sales numbers, and that forces in the brand of community we have here.

I think that's what a lot of people are referring to when they comment on how good and intelligent the community is here. The charts were the seed that nurtured a community like that. Even if you're not informed when you join, I truly believe that the critical thinking demanded in such a forum and makes every user here just that little bit more intelligent purely from that exposure.

That's a really good point, never thought of it like that. Some of the credit has got to be given to the mod team though. Firm, fair and darn right jolly good chaps!
