Going by what was said in the WSJ report about the NX having "industry leading chips" makes me think that industry leading means performance per watt and/or performance per ²mm (of silicon) and my guess is Nintendo are going with AMD for the SoC

Makes sense. with no gamepad + 3rs after ps4, its clear Nintendo can make a comparable/better HW at $299 if they wanted.  The real problem is the power consumption, which Nintendo seems obsessed about, and if they stay at 28nm they can't get a gpu under 75w near PS4 level.  If they go for the new arctic island amd finfet 14/16nm chips in 2016, it would make more sense (big increase in performance per watt) but then would be costly, which IMO would push the NX back to 2017.
