You've got to be kidding me with the Wii U example. Ubisoft happens to develop for basically every new console at launch. Other companies gave Nintendo ports at best. Third parties did not work on the Wii U in any meaningful capacity.
The PS4 was a logical extension of the PS3. It was a pretty safe bet to develop for based on the PS3's momentum, the fairly standard hardware, and market trends. And, as the generation was ending, they had to start supporting the next one. There was no other next gen console with a meaningful install base. Even so, they focussed heavily on ports and cross-gen titles.
The NX on the other hand is launching in the middle of a generation, whereas its two competitors will have a combined install base in the neighborhood of 50 million. It is coming on the heels of arguably the biggest flop in gaming history. Third parties did not have success with either the Wii U or the Wii. There isn't a ton of reason for third party optimism.
And even if they were, why would that necessitate them not only developing but also making use of the NX's theoretical extra power? How does the extra power help them? Unless they make it so far ahead of the curve that it will be able to compete with the XBow TWO and Playstation 5, that extra power will be meaningless.
Remeber that a lot of the people that shifted to ps4 are from the wii crowd. In fact, sony admitted to targeting the wii audience. It's safe to say Nintendo can make games that can detract market share from it's competitors.
No, they aren't, and no they can't. What makes you say that Wii gamers went to the PS4? Sony may claim that, but they've never given actual data. Now, look at the software sales data on the PS4. The games that are selling well on the PS4 are almost exclusively Mature rated action titles and sports games. The games that sold well on the Wii were platformers, mini game collections, and family friendly titles. Unless huge amounts of Wii Sports fans are now playing Far Cry 4, it doesn't seem the PS4 is courting many Wii gamers.
And yes, Nintendo does have the capability to make blockbuster games. It's a matter of will they invest money to do so.
No they don't. They don't have the amount of developers, they haven't established the market, and they don't have the kinds of developers that work on those sorts of things. The people who are responsible for creative direction of the company are not adept at that sort of thing. They have no expertise in that area, and have not shown that they do.
Of course, Nintendo has about 10 billion dollars in assets. If they invest money they can develop blockbuster games, but doing so would present an enormous risk and a total 180 for the company. It wouldn't be something that could be done quickly and done well. You expect a risk averse company like Nintendo to suddenly start investing in hundred million dollar marketing campaigns? Not likely.

Ok... and what on Earth does this have to do with the topic? Does Mario Maker require a console more powerful than the PS4 to work? Splatoon was specifically made by a small team of new developers on a modest budget, and it doesn't push graphical boundaries. How do these examples show that Nintendo should invest in making a super powerful console? If anything, these titles show that an investment in big budget titles is not necessary or wise.
Nintendo regaining people's fascination requires a multitude of things, but power is a safe bet (as is marketing, standard controller, and a solid lineup)
Power is not a safe bet, because power costs money which either means Nintendo takes a huge loss (which investors are not going to be happy with considering Nintendo's recent financial results and new CEO) or that they make an expensive console that will limit its appeal to those outside of the "hardcore gamer" realm. Plus I still don't see how having more power than the PS4 is any better than being as powerful as the PS4.
Why is a standard controller necessary at all? Because it's what you would like? Because it is what people on these forums and at neogaf and such?
Nintendo is not going to have success by trying to claw away at Sony and Microsoft's marketshare. It's an uphill battle, and the exact opposite of the strategy that has been successful for Nintendo in the past.
