You continue to act as if the past is relevant to this generation, though, and that argument doesn't hold water. We had three casual shooters last gen that did split screen: CoD offline, with a resolution cut, Halo both online and offline (though I believe 4 cut the splitscreen from 4 to 2 for online, I could be wrong about that), and Gears of War offline. Two of those as far as I know have confirmed no splitscreen (I don't keep up on CoD), and the third is likely not to based on Spencer's argument for Halo. Currently, zero games offer split screen and online hybrid on next gen, and I'll reiterate the reason since you want to keep acting like it's invalid. If you want evidence, the fact that there's a fucking goose egg in support of your desire so far is evidence enough. People within the industry have said it cannot be done without compromising most of the game, and even then it's a gamble if it'll even work or not. And again, not enough people use it for it to be worth the effort. If you want to doubt that go right ahead buddy, but do not act like you're the reasonable person in this thread when time and again everybody here is telling you it cannot be done without huge losses to the quality of the game. To assume that "it can't be that hard," to paraphrase you, is ignorant. You yourself, no, you're probably not ignorant. But that thought process is. There are no trends to be followed here, and if you really want to compare stuff between generations, the previous gen only goes to show that couch Co-op has been slowly dying for nine years now.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have splitscreen online in this game. It'd be wonderful and I'd buy a second controller if it was a thing. But I understand that it cannot be done. The best in the industry at optimizing games over at Treyarch and Bungie haven't done it, so what makes you think DICE of all companies could do it? Let's be reasonable.
I'm trying to pull back a bit because I feel I came out of the gates too hot in this thread, and I usually am more respectful so I apologize for that, but there is still zero chance of any online FPS, and more likely any game at all (barring some indie miracle that is made specifically to fill this gap) having splitscreen online. Period. We're two years into what will be no longer than a 6 or 7 year cycle and we've seen nothing of the sort even hinted at. |
While I think it's hard to say for certain that no FPSs this gen will have splitscreen, I see your points and understand where you are coming from. Let's hope that they somehow find a way to accomplish splitscreen in the future. At least you weren't suggesting I go and buy a second rig, lol.
I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.
