I'd point to Monolith and to a lesser degree Platinum as examples that that's not true: it's Western third parties whom they seem to have little faith in.
More importantly though, I will gladly accept the highest level of executive meddling if it meant the Etrian team was finally forced to give us real numbers for each skill, and not just vague arrows. That parry skill gets a lot less sexy when pumping ten level ups into it means it triggers only ten percent of the time!
