I think the average consumer hasn't bought the Wii U and will see most of those games as new games they don't have access to yet and will gladly jump on board because they aren't Wii U games anymore, they're simply eshop games. The line of thinking will be the same as buying into Steam after you made the jump to PC. |
So why not buy a Wii U? They apparently like the games so much but yet they don't want to play them for some reason. Doesn't it have thousands of Wii titles and an OK-ish selection of Virtual Console games too.
Nobody but like 10 people bought a Wii because it played GameCube games.
STEAM is not comparable to what Nintendo does or what you're describing. Just because you slap 10 year old games on a online only shop doesn't make you STEAM.
STEAM just unifies the overall PC market, and the PC market is successful due to its flexibility that consoles don't offer ... I can upgrade my GPU whenever I want to have the highest end graphics. I don't need to wait another 3-4 years to play a game in 4K if I feel like it. Is Nintendo going to do that? Hey if Nintendo allows *that*, then that's a legit game changer, but I doubt it.
What third party games are offered in this magical Nintendo backwards compatibility service? Is the last Grand Theft Auto there? Last year's Call of Duty? Things like Left 4 Dead? What if I feel like checking out the last Fallout or Bioshock game? Those on Nintendo's service? Witcher III looks cool but I skipped Witcher II maybe I should go back and play that. Can I? Nope, nope, nope, nope, and nope. Since Nintendo never got any of those titles, they won't be on this magic NX service, it'll mostly just be a back catalog of Nintendo games and their mediocre third party titles from the last 15 years.
