"Rodgers was downgraded in large part for two plays: his second-quarter fumble (a play that was wiped out by a Chiefs penalty) and his third-quarter near-interception." "The grading system has its limitations, as PFF admitted "the greatness of Rodgers' performance last night was in the intangibles: recognizing the blitz, drawing the defense offsides, catching the Chiefs in bad situations and exploiting those scenarios with simple passes to open receivers." But PFF says "our system grades what can be graded -- the execution of the play post-snap -- and in that regard Rodgers did not stand out in the same way that his statistics did." |
Yeah, their system refuses to acknowledge audibling from a designed run into a TD screen pass, or throwing a TD bomb on a free play caused by a hard count. It does, however, grade a recovered fumble on another free play caused by a hard count. Also uncounted: throwing a receiver open so he can ge yards after catch. A long incomplete, if it was "difficult," counts for more in their system.
Apparently Blake Bortles had a higher PFF rating this weekend than Rodgers. I find their system ...flawed.
