How do we know Bowser isn't really saving the Princess from Mario? Perhaps she has Stockholm Syndrome and Bowser is a member of that universe's police force tasked with saving her. Every time he is about to reach a breakthrough and get her to see that Mario is her kidnapper and not her lover, there is Mario smacking him around and "saving" his "beloved" princess.
