Like I've said many times before -- Nintendo can't support two distinct hardware platforms any longer.

The development resources required for modern HD games are too high to allow for Nintendo to basically have to support two consoles. Yes, 3DS is basically a console now because it requires all the same franchises. And this will get worse next-gen because the portable will be capable of graphics equal to or close to the Wii U itself.

So the bar keeps getting higher and higher. It's not sustainable. That's when unifying the platforms is basically Nintendo's only choice.
