I would say its common knowledge that Nintendo has always been focused on Japan foremost. I mean hell, "Failure in Japan" is basically spurring the introduction of the NX and the Wii U's small size low power design is aimed at compartmentalized Japanese households.

I completely disagree. When Nintendo funds a game, how it will perform in the west is often a top priority. Especially for Wii U given Japan has been moving away from home consoles. For 3DS, Nintendo obviously works a harder to cater to Japanese gamers. But still views the west as the priority.

Wii U is small because its basically last gen specs. Which is obviously done to keep their prices down and profits higher.

An argument that would be stronger if it wasn't for Gamepad and its continue support despite it driving down profits and keep the MSRP higher then its previous generation.
