The 2 last Marios Tezuka directed was Super Mario World 1 & 2 (in which Miyamoto was only producer), the last Zelda he directed was Link's awakening (in which Miyamoto barely contributed, Tezuka was the real mind of the gameboy Zelda game).
The guy clearly can do better than the New Super Mario bros games...
