and yes this gen is very different from last. The cost of new hardware devlopment and the fact that the Wii is so different to the competition means that things should be interesting this gen.
Looking back at history the next-gen push is usually made by either a losing company trying to gain marketshare or the top seller hitting saturation point. As such i wouldn't be surprised to see Nintendo keeping Wii alive as long as possible, while SONY and M$ are likly to continue support for the HD consoles due to the sheer cost of devloping a new console... it's entirly possible for this gen to last 7 - 10 yrs ...
