HDMI is mostly just DVI+sound in the same cable. And HDCP means HD copy protection and it has absolutely nothing to do with 1080p output. HDCP is used even with 720p transmissions and in newer devices also DVI has HDCP. DVI can output 1080p just as easily and with exactly same quality as HDMI.
