Heh, as far as I´m concerned, no system will ever top the SNES in the 'awesomeness category'.

And I think Soriku hadn´t even 'graced' the world with his presence back then.

The SNES was the last console I considered to be the best of breed for its generation, partly because of the hardware, but mostly because of the 3rd party games. Barring Link to the Past, all of my favorites on that system were third party.

Okay, I'll admit I killed many hours playing Star Fox, but in retrospect, it was mainly because I thought the FX chip was the Greatest Thing Ever to happen to consoles at the time. But for console hardware where scaled and rotated bit mapped graphics (Mode 7!!!) was considered "cutting edge," it was pretty cool.

Since the N64, the vast majority of games really worth owning a Nintendo console for have been Nintendo franchises. Until that changes, Nintendo will never be my personal favorite again no matter how many consoles they sell. Zelda and Metroid are the only first party IPs I still play.

But I will always have fond memories of the SNES. Well, not just memories. Hell, I still have mine and all my game carts.
