I guess because outside of certain Batman and Superman movies, they've never been that great. Marvel was facing similar issues before 2008 though, when they finally started putting out quality. After the Dark Knight films, Man of Steel (yes I actually enjoyed that film, along with a lot of people), and the Superman vs Batman and Suicide Squad films that are both looking really good, I think DC is finally starting to hit that same stride. They just need to put some effort forward and take their characters seriously.

Will Smith as Deadshot could ruin an otherwise good movie. There are certain types of characters Will Smith can play straight, otherwise Will Smith can really only do goofball. Deadshot, I think, is not a charcter Will Smith can play straight, and he's not a character than can be done as a goofball. It's a miss cast IMO, and I like Will Smith in a lot of what he does. In his most serious roles (I am Legend, and Pursuit of Happyness) I really liked his work. But Deadshot is not like those characters. I think WIll's Deadshot is going to be badly shown up by the version DC has deliberately snubbed from Arrow by completely divorcing the TV universe from the movie universe.

I'm pretty much guaranteed to see Batman Vs Superman, but Suicide Squad is a maybe/probably for now.

I have a good ammount of faith in Will Smith. He's played all sorts of characters in his career, and I don't think he's ever done a bad job in a role. Like even when the movie sucks (Independence Day, After Earth, etc.) his character still ends up being good, and the best parts of those films.
