The sad part of that statement is probably true.
on topic, neither game is important because neither will be an exclusive. That means if people aren't onboard with Nintendo already, they'll just get it for PC, PS4, or XBone instead. How of they were exclusives to NX, that would be a very different story.
right now, DQXI is probably the more important game to get, as many people who would be in the market to buy that game have not bought any of the consoles the home console version will be appearing on. DQ is bigger in Japan than Final Fantasy, and PS4 hasn't really taken off there, and Nintendo can take many of those sales with DQXI as a launch title.
