I think you meant to say "can't" break a contract. If so, this is incorrect. Contracts can be and are breached daily: if they weren't, I'd be out of a job. There's even a legal concept called "efficient breach of contract," which as the name implies encourages breaching if it is more efficient (profitable) to do so. I don't know enough about the details here to say if breaching the Sandler contract would be wise or not, but since it is often made out to be such an albatross it must have crossed Sony's mind several times.
