That difference is mainly attributed to the fact that the Wii U has been out for a year longer. Attach rates normally go up over time (which is why the 360 and the PS3 have reached a 10+ attach rate now). I remember someone checked a while ago, and the PS4 and XBO attach rates are higher compared to the Wii U at the same point in its life.

Attach ratios of handhelds aren't comparable to the attach ratios of home consoles.

I know the attach rate goes up over time, but I'm not convinced that that's the only reason the Wii U is on top

I also know that the attach rates of handheld consoles are not totally comparable, but it still makes me sad

Of course, the fact that the group that constitutes the majority of Wii U owners are rather big Nintendo fans (and rather adamant gamers in general) which make them more likely to buy more games, plays an important role.

However, at the end of the gen, I expect both the PS4 and the XBO to be ahead of the Wii U in attach rate, simply due to more releases, and, I expect, a longer life.
