Intelligent Systems gets an ultimatum from Nintendo: Make the next game sell or this will be the last one!
After FE:Awakening sells very well and even sometimes is labelled "system seller" the Intelligent Systems team sits down to analyse what made this game more popular than previous games.
Of course they will notice the "waifu simulator" discussions on fan sites. If the fans wants "waifus" and even same gender marriage why not give it to them - if it sells the game.
According to sales in Japan for FE:if/fates this is the way to go - so expect more of the same for the next upcoming game.
This will continue until the original fans gets vocal and demand a proper "modest" FE - then sales probably will drop again.
