Who gives a f**k both male and female characters are depicted so what, welcome to the real world where sex is just another thing and people just get on with their lives.

What...In the real world where women with huge sized tits wear skimpy armor to war and jiggles her assets all across your screen?  This is truly in poor taste, maybe if they made a sexy fast ninja girl in a skimpy outfit that would make sense, but these girls are dressing like hookers while they're still wearing armor.  It's poor taste and sacrifices any and all artistic direction they had going in the earlier games.

Two images for the sake of comparison.

The battle mage in Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn :

And the battle mage in Fire Emblem Fates :

Sexualization or not, the first design is way more interesting IMO...

EXACTLY.

The Fire Emblem series has always had "hot chicks".  The difference is now their tits are popping out of their completely-ill-suited-for-combat outfits.

And? It's ill-suited-for-combat but that's not uncommon in RPG's. Tifa spent the whole game using shorts and that tight shirt. And with those she was able to stand a big bang attack from sephiroth.

Another example, Tales of Vesperia. I can use an armor made out of bath bubbles and have more defense than a made-out-of-steel armor.

It doesn't matter,  it's meant to be ridiculous.

And just to get this out of the way, I didn't like Fire Emblem Awakening, but not because of the "oversexualized" characters or "ill-suited-for-combat" armors. I didn't like it because the my unit character is completely broken. See, my complaint is about the gameplay elements, while all you guys do is complain about tits.

I complain about tits because the setting, art, characters is a HUGE part of a FE game.  This is basically making all of the old fans dislike the majority of the game.  Beyond that, I voiced some gameplay gripes I had with FE:A in the OP.

If they do the same thing for male characters, I don't see a problem.

Agreed. Unless your asexual I really don't see why you wouldn't enjoy this

Because maybe I want to keep my porn in PornHub? If I wanted to see cheeky sexualization and boobs I would open a porn site.  I don't want/need that in my FE game.  Not to mention this moe-ecchi style is completely in poor taste for FE.  The series went 20 years without sexualizing any of the characters now on this game it went full slice-of-life anime.

I was going to make a long post saying exactly what you have here, but you did it for me :p

This perfectly nails exactly how I feel about Awakening/Fates.  I'm the biggest FE fan here and probably in the world but I loathe anime and it's been a irritating spectical having to deal with the merger of these two things.  I too understand that the series needed to adapt to the mass market in order to stay afloat but yes, selling your dignity is exactly what's happened here.  It perfectly describes, I think, what OP's issue with the game(s) is.

It's really hard to have a memorable cast when everyone is an archtype from a Shonen Jump anime.

Being a JRPG fan and not liking anime is suffering, kinda like loving shooters but hating Battlefield/Call of Duty, when you really start looking there aren't actually many shooters to play if you don't like those 2 franchises.

I don't even hate anime if it's like old school Shin Megami Tensei, even SMT:IV was okay for me.

It's sad, it makes it look like the japanese video game industry simply lacks talent in the art department, almost every game looks the same.

Why do you think there's so many wacky hair colors in these games? it's literally the only way they have to differentiate characters.

Well, that and tits size.

So basically the characters for all this JRPGs are "pink small tits girl, red big tits girl, tall and mean white hair girl" etc.

This is  completely true.  No one in FE is remotely as interesting as the starting cast of POR.  You literally get more character development, original characters and situations in the first 5 hours of FE:POR than you get in the entire game of awakening.

So much defending/excusing going on in this thread. Can't you guys just admit that this is a step in the wrong direction even if you think the rest of the game could be great?

some people dont life in the 1800s anymore and are totaly fine with boobs-

It's not I'm against oversexualization or boobs in games, I just think this is in very poor taste and FE as a series doesn't fit into a moe'styled anime.  People will just defend everything, I'm not saying it's going to be a bad game, but TBH Awakening bores  me deeply compared to the originals .  I'M just saying the art and sexual direction is  beyond stupid and unFE like.

I'm not denying that part, but a lot of them don't.

And like I said the point of this thread isn't to call out sexualization in RPGs, I'm just calling it out in this particular RPG which went 20 years without having to resort to these sleezy tactics.

Please name just a single western RPG that does not feature oversexualized female characters. Just one.

Child of Light.
