I was ready to consider this movie canon until I saw they are just repeating the original three movies: the Empire is still around, Stormtroopers, Star Destroyers, etc. etc. I felt Return of the Jedi was a satisfying conclusion to that arc.

There seems to be no reason to watch anything after Episode VII because the novelty of Han, Luke, and Leia appearing on the big screen again will be gone.

Where did you hear or read that? From what I understand this is supposed to take place after the emperor and vader dies.

I think they are just renaming the Rebellion as the "resistance" and the Empire is now "the new order." Sounds like bad fan fiction.

hmm. My money is on that it's a trilogy taking place after the emperor and vader dies. It would explain why the original cast is older and how new force users are trained during that period. That is also the period of time when several books were written about. All of the books, shows, movies are connected with eachother and don't override anything. They are basically the same arc.

Doing a remake of the original trilogy and changing major things or doing a trilogy that takes place right after the deaths of the emperor and vader but ignoring the books about the era really throws a wrench into the system. I think it will piss off fans either way.
