Genyo Takeda is the guy who's been in the charge of hardware technically, and he's still overseeing NX from everything I've seen.
And Nintendo basically states in this same interview they are looking for a gimmick. Iwata also said they have no interest in simply doing the "conventional hardware upgrade" route.
The next system will have a gimmick. There's little/no doubt about it.
