It's not simply android games that he's implying will cause NX to sell well. He also mentions to unification of the console & handheld side of Nintendo so that all or most games will be playable on either device. Wii U is a $300 device that only has less than half of the Nintendo games released this generation and very little 3rd party support, in the OP's proposal NX will be a $200 console with 100% of Nintendo's support and solid 3rd party support, that makes it a far more compelling purchase than Wii U.

If they are going to unify their console and handheld but as 2 seperate device, who would waste their money on what is being proposed here? You are better off just buying the handheld: you get mobile gaming in the way it is meant to be played, plus you get all the Nintendo first party support.

As a handheld, you have a win-win situation. You dont have that with a console approach.

Having a handheld and a console that play practically the same game is going to result in one of these falling to the side. Nintendo's handheld sector still caters to casual gamers (who are mostly a mobile on the go market). A console does not. And having the option of 2, I am pretty certain most ppl around the world will stick with the handheld (especially since there wont be a Vita successor I think and because its more familiar to a larger userbase currently) as opposed to getting the console when there will be much better options in both the X1 and PS4 at the same time.

The answer to that is easy. The handheld market is dying off thanks to mobile. Nintendo is hedging their bet in case handheld alone doesn't fly. Its a smart move in the long run too because there is no guarantee that their next handheld will be a hit. Besides there is no guarantee that their next console won't be a hit either. Consoles just sell in the west, but handhelds sell in Japan.
