The vast majority of people don't care about power, what they care about is what the product can offer them. If what it offers are ugly low end versions of games that are better elsewhere, then it only diminishes the appeal.
Yeah the Wii was less powerful than PS3 or 360, but it also offered users a lot of very interesting software and play mechanics. Lots of exclusive material. It wasn't a console where you played cheap versions of Xbox games.
