"We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U."

Mario Tennis does not satisfy me, Iwata!

This.

If Nintendo is serious about this statement, then a serious 2D Metroid for Wii U made by a company like Retro Studios would be the bare minimum needed to satisfy the core fans.  Anything more might be asking for too much at this point (I doubt we'll see another 3D Mario, Metroid Prime, or a full-fledged Animal Crossing game on the Wii U at this point).

Let's hope that Nintendo is serious about this.  A 3D Metroid is out, but there is still time for Nintendo to scrap together a decent 2D installment before the end of the Wii U's life.  I don't know about the people here, but if I knew that there was a core Metroid game coming to the Wii U (even a 2D one) I would be feeling a lot better about buying a new Nintendo console in the next couple of years.
