I think if they are going to go this approach, then they need to embrace it moreso.
The NX needs to be something really DIFFERENT. Not just a controller with a screen on it or even a motion pad. That won't cut it today.
They need something that is completely different from other consoles and immediately is understood by the consumer. It would help if they had some damn games that actually utilize whatever this new functionality is to be.
Like I have no idea what that would be, but it has to be something that if you have a friend over they go "holy crap, what the hell is *that*?" type reaction.
If they just come out with a console that's similar to the PS4/XB1, but 3-4 years late ... they are going to get killed, so that's a dead end for them.
