Its not necessarily a downgrade. Its just the art style of the Gears games have changed over the years.
Gears 1 has incredible shiny textures, bump mapping and HDR lighting and muzzle flash effects, over the years they toned it down to give it a more matted look.
There is more detail in the remaster though, just shame they changed the style too much. Gears 1 was a beast, had better textures than most games last gen.
