VR is anti local multiplayer and it will remain a niche

I, and a lot of people I know, care about local multiplayer. Not only are Smash bros and Mario Kart still the most played games on my Wii U for that reason (and yes, we do have get togethers to play 8-player smash), but Naruto is played very regularly on my PS3 because of multiplayer. Once friends come around, no one wants to watch someone else play a single player game. I have 2 brothers, and local co-op games are a really big thing for us.

I have a 3D TV, and the 3D is very dependent on the software, not the TV. When you watch Thor (bluray 3D movie), there's harldy any 3D. When you watch Hugo, it's magical. When you play a game that doesn't support 3D (or watch a cartoon with simple 2D sprites, like the flintsones), you can use the TV's 2D to 3D conversion mode, which will simply look like a layered version of what you were watching/playing, with a higher resolution. I played Skyward Sword this way, and the game looked better for it. When you play a game that does support 3D, the 3D is pretty good. The TV has a gaming 3D mode meant specifically for games, and that's the one I prefer for games that support 3D, but one of my brothers prefers the 2D to 3D conversion even when the game supports 3D. The point is, there are options for everybody.

There's even the option to split the screen side to side, or top to bottom, such that if you close one of yoour eyes, you see the full TV screen displaying only one half of the split screen, while if you close the other eye, you see the entire TV screen displaying only the other half of the split screen. We've never actually used it (what with one person playing on the TV and the other on the gamepad), but now that I'm typing it, I'll go test out how OK or uncomfortable I'll feel playing split screen mario kart this way. *Gets eyepatch*
