Ok, I will agree with you that it really can't get worse in the power department.
But as for the GamePad, don't forget, also the Off-TV play for the GamePad that was supposed to be one of the Wii U's main selling points, as well as the GamePad's gyro scensors for its Gyro controls, both of those things take up some money, and if they ignore it, than we come out and accuse the developers of not taking advantage of the GamePad's full potential, (much like Nintendo doesn't most of the time), which is another thing, if Nintendo themselves aren't willing to put much effort into their own gimmick, why should 3rd party developers care than? And why doesn't Nintendo do that, it's because they know better than anyone how much it would cost, that's why they just settle with Off-TV play most of the time and leave it at that. Aside, from Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, WWHD, and potentially Zelda Wii U, there really aren't many other games that will take advantage of the possibilities the GamePad brings to the table.
The NX doesn't just need a strong lineup of great quality, heavy hitting Nintendo games, to attract their main fanbase off the bat, they also need their initial lineup to be supported with a reasonable quantity of 3rd party games to attract other potential buyers who are on the fence about it. They need to get back to where they were with the SNES, a strong lineup of high quality 1st party games, backed up by a good quantity of good, or decent third party games.
Those are a few factors that could help it come out strong.
