The casual audience is fickle and payed no attention to the Wii U, they are still with their wiis in the closet and only play it when family comes around (much like scrabble or monopoly).  Nintendo wanted to appease this audience and the hardcore audience with the Wii U.. unfortunately the casual audience never bought in and the 10 million who bought Wii U are hardcore.  Alot of people left nintendo for sony/xbox.  If they could get these people to buy NX as a secondary console then Nintendo would probably be selling much more..

Alot of core gamers say I want to play Bayonetta 2 and Zelda but I wouldn't buy a 350$ system for 2 games.  Nintendo needs to create IP that appeals to this core audience and Splatoon is a step in the right direction.  They also need development help in creating games more consistently throughout the year.

The casual audience is fickle, especially when the hardware is expensive and has a useless tablet control.

There was no chance of Wii U achieving original Wii's success. But launching Wii U for $200-250 would have been an easier decision to make for many consumers. I would gladly pay $200 for a Wii U to dabble in some Mario games and Bayonetta 2. But a Wii U for $300 with a REQUIRED tablet control is less appealing.

I said from the start Wii U should have been Wii HD. Same Wiimote, better specs, and just focus on new games. They didn't need a new gimmick yet, especially this bad gimmick.

New IPs would be great too, but the hardware and price is their biggest problem. MS made mistakes as well but fortunately they made decisions they could backtrack on with X1.

I personally loved playing mario 3d world, New super mario U and other games in bed after a day of work on the gamepad..but I bought mine used off ebay..  I really do feel that the Wii U was too expensive for hardcore market penetration.. they still can salvage the Wii U if they price it $199 and minus the gamepad.. they also really should acquire more developers to help them make games more quickly..I sold my wii u for financial reasons (to use money to give my friend wedding money- I was his best man)

Because I'm 29 years old and have been with Nintendo since NES I would buy a cheap system just to play one game Mario.. I love mario that much.. and I don't have time to play other games cause I am a full time Registered Nurse, I have to mow my lawn, wash the dishes, teach RCIA to Catholics entering the church.. I do love Mario, just the cost of the system to play MARIO was too high.  150$ and I would buy it again.

I have to pay mortgage, electric, water, food, tv, phone..so gaming comes after all that and I only have time for mario

I'm not implying the tablet control shouldn't exist, it just shouldn't have been required.

It sounds like too much of the Wii U functionality and library requires that Wii U tablet, Don't think they can really backtrack on that now.

A lot of us have responsibilities, but an hour here and there and you can eventually complete a lot of games. I just don't waste much time with side content or long games like JRPGs.
