MS is most likely getting timed exclusivity because they volunteered to dedicate repeated stage time to the game -- and pay for advertising.

It would cost MS more money than its worth to actually "fund" any substantial portion of the game. In terms of advertising -- it becomes a wash and a loss lead so they could  try to rival Uncharted 4 -- and so they could try to claim "Best Xbox lineup ever".

It needs 6 million sales to be profitable? Talk about facts pulled directly from the ass. Sales expectations and what it needs to sell for a profit are not the same thing.

Maybe MS fronted development cost and expect to be paid back. Thats how MS got timed exclusivity of GTA IV DLC. They loaned R* $50 million. Hence, we dont know the details but MS must have did something great for Square Enix.
