Tanabe (producer director of Metroid Prime series) kind of let it slip when he called NX a "console" so at the very least the "NX" concept encompasses a home console (it may also be a broader product line that includes a portable).
Wii U hasn't done shit to earn a 6 year life cycle either. That should only be reserved for consoles that are extremely successful like the PS2 or Wii, and even with the Wii it was probably a mistake letting it go that long.
