Can NX honestly release next year with only 4 years of Wii U?

As far as I can tell Nintendo has announced most of their consoles the E3 before the year it came out, so E3 2016 NX announcement ---> 2017 NX release. I just hope they're not going to let the WiiU be a barren wasteland in the meantime....:/
