I was a little skeptical about the game but i find i can't put it down. I'm getting pretty competitive with it. the lack of voice chat freaking kills me as i would love pre-game strategizing, but i love finding a way to be supportive for my team. Whether that means getting kills with a blaster to protect my ink-covering team mates, or grabbing a brush and making travel paths it's fun to have a roll to fill. I also really dig the creativity behind the sub weapons and, in some cases, the specials. The killer wail and kraken in particular are pretty entertaining. Oh yeah, did you know that you turn into a squid and swim through along floors, walls, pipes and the such? That's an immediate blast in itself. All that has been the source of the lasting appeal for me. It's taking away the time i was spending on shadow of mordor, which is kinda bitter-sweet because, so far, shadow is my 2014 game of the year (sorry smash and mario kart). I think, so far, splatoon is my multiplayer game of the year. Like it more than battlefield (and i love me some hotwire), and the destiny expansions so far. Again though, the lack of chat does kill me. You should be mastering the basics before you start innovating nintendo.
