Every Starter Pokemon is cute. Heck, Meganium manages to stay cute despite being fully evolved. And Pikachu is not necessarily very loving; all the starters from GSC onwards start as friendly as Pikachu does and become more friendly by simply walking around with them. Plus, Pikachu's negative reaction to being separated from the player for just a few minutes suggests an unhealthy relationship.
