Activision sold 175 million Skylanders in 2½ years making their average production volume more than 6 millions a month.
Nintendo sold +10,5 million amiibos since november 2014 making their average production volume less than 2 millions a month.

Hmmm, that is indeed interesting. Nintendo really needs to step up production, seems like demand far exceeds supply so far.

If Activision could do this, Nintendo should be able to do better. Amiibo cut across many games, after all.

Yeah, I know.  And it's kinda hard to explain, because on one hand Nintendo can be making so much money with this amiibo thing.  Imagine, if by this Christmas of 2015, Nintendo would have possibly sold 50Million plus amiibos.  I mean, that's not a stretch, right?  If we got all the Ness, all the Marth, all the Wario, all the Wii fit Trainers, Pit, Megaman, Jigglypuff(for f'ing sakes), all the Shulks, etc.  Who knows what could happen, but it seems to me at least that Nintendo is making this shortage an actual part of the Amiibo Platform.  We can't say perhaps that Nitnendo's Amiibo will have less traction next year by this strategy, but is just seems to me like Nintendo has chosen their strategy of scarcity.  That is where all the proof is pointed towards.  Perhaps they may strike it big, but right now they're going to the path of scarcity.

They may prove me wrong buy this Christmas by having a Ness amiibo readily available at my local walmart, but as it stands, I would have to fork over an extra 20 dollars just to get my hands on one.
