Many third parties are bailing out of the traditional console model too.

Konami is out. Square-Enix is hedging more and more towards mobile.

Companies are not going to support a business structure that could bankrupt them if they have one or two games that don't sell as well as expected.

Hollywood Studios have that kind of funding, but game development studios don't, not unless you're EA and even EA has recently had monstrous layoffs.

Then in that case, I'll be done with gaming. I don't want stupid andriod apps running on a console. Also, you're argument has one fatal flaw with it. Its that these companies won't want to develop for this! If they're really moving mobile, that doesn't include Nintendo. Unless nintendo starts making phones, its likely doomed if it doesn't go the "traditional" way.

There will be many developers that will develop for it. Mobile is getting tons of support already, now mix in physical controls being throw into the mix by Nintendo and mobile chips that are exceeding the PS3/360/Wii U in horsepower and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see where this is going.

The best selling game console in history is the PS2 at 150 million which took ten years to hit that.

Android devices ship 250 million. In one year. Every year.

I've been around for a while and I've heard it all. I remember militant Nintendo fanboys saying during the GameCube that they would quit gaming and quit Nintendo if they ever allowed things like movie playback (hi Netflix on Wii) or other non-gaming features into Nintendo consoles.
